Progressive Lens

Progressive Lenses/ Multifocal

Progressive lenses are also called multifocal lenses are spectacle lenses used for the correction of presbyopia. The lens has a gradual change of power from distance to near. This gradual change starts from the wearer distance prescription at the top of the lens and reaches the maximum reading power (addition power) at the lower portion of the lens. The length of power progression depends on the design of the lens.

So are all the progressive lenses in the manufacture the same?

The ultimate aim of progressive lenses is to provide streamless distance and near vision correction for presbyope. However, progressive lenses are not the same across company and brands.

Progressive lens contains a specific design in it.All progressive have a distance zone, an intermediate zone, a near zone and distortion zone. The Individual company invested in research and development to produce a comfortable design of progressive.

When looking at distance object, a person will only need to look straight, just like their usual glasses, but when they need to look at near object, a person will need to shift their eyes downwards to look thru the lower portion of the lenses, where the reading power is.

As there is a progression in a pair of progressive lenses as compared to single vision lenses, therefore, fitting of such lenses require certain skill and precision in measurement of the eyes prescription and eye distance.

It will be best to speak with an eye care professional to discuss the different type of progressive lenses that are suitable for you.
